World AIDS Day – 1 December 2015
December 1 is World AIDS Day 2015, an opportunity for dental teams to work actively and collaboratively to raise awareness about HIV and help move closer to the goal of an AIDS-free generation. This year’s theme, “The Time to Act Is Now,” calls clinicians to act with urgency to implement the latest evidence-based HIV prevention and infection control strategies.
The world has come a long way in achieving the global target of halting and reversing the spread of HIV. Since 2000, new infections have fallen globally by 35%, and AIDS-related deaths have decreased by 24%. On World AIDS Day, the World Health Organization released new recommendations designed to speed progress toward the goal of eradicating AIDS by 2030. These include the use of innovative HIV testing methods, customizing treatment approaches to meet the full diversity of people’s needs, and offering a wider spectrum of prevention options.
