Treatment Strategies Offered for Patients Undergoing Head And Neck Radiation

Patients who are undergoing radiotherapy for head and neck cancer are susceptible to numerous side effects that manifest in the oral cavity. As part of a continuing education series sponsored by Colgate, in partnership with the American Academy of Periodontology, the article, “Long-Term Effects of Head and Neck Radiation on Oral Health,” explores the overarching issues, and also details intervention strategies that dental teams can use to manage acute and chronic complications that may present following radiotherapy. Successful management will help these patients maintain optimal oral health and improve their quality of life.
