Cultural competency training will help oral health professionals provide appropriate care and referrals when treating patients who use khat.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Discuss khat chewing as a cultural tradition, its prevalence, and the role of cultural competency training in treating the oral and systemic effects of its use.
  2. List clinical strategies and concerns when caring for this patient population.
  3. Describe the potential oral health consequences of khat use.
