Optimal pH levels support remineralization and oral health by helping maintain homeostasis in the oral microbiome.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Describe the concepts of homeostasis, symbiosis and dysbiosis in the oral microbiome, and the role of saliva and oral pH levels in these processes.
  2. Explain how dietary choices and mechanical forces, including plaque removal and introducing remineralizing ions, can affect the demineralization/ remineralization of tooth structure.
  3. Discuss the importance of evidence- based recommendations in the prevention and management of dental caries and other dental diseases.
