Not all innocuous-looking oral mucosal lesions are benign and a histopathological exam is the best tool for establishing a definitive diagnosis.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Discuss the prevalence of oral mucosal lesions and incidence of malignant and premalignant lesions.
  2. Identify the most common form of cancer in the oral cavity, associated risk factors, and common sites of presentation.
  3. Explain clinical strategies for early detection, diagnosis and management of malignant and premalignant oral lesions.
