EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Discuss the legal and recreational use of cannabis and cannabis
    products.
  2. Identify the signs of cannabis use and abuse in dental patients.
  3. Consider possible negative drug interactions in cannabis users
    when administering local anesthesia or sedation.

Lori Hendrick, MS, CDA, CDT, RDH, PhDc, is a faculty member in the Department of Dental Hygiene at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina, and in the dental assisting program at Isothermal Community College in Spindale, North Carolina. With more than 20 years of experience as a dental lab technician, she owns and operates Athena Dental Solutions, a dental laboratory and provider of dental continuing education. Joseph Hendrick Jr., DDS, practices in Shelby, North Carolina, with a concentration in general, restorative and cosmetic procedures. He has served as president of the Isothermal Dental Society, a member of the Piedmont Study/Seattle Study Club, president of the First District Dental Society, and is president of the North Carolina Dental Society. He is also a member of the Isothermal Community College dental assisting program’s advisory board.
