EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Discuss the prevalence of tooth loss among adults, and challenges inherent to dental implant therapy.
  2. Explain common techniques for alveolar ridge preservation following extractions, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of various open-membrane techniques for maintaining adequate dimension.
  3. List some of the resorbable and nonresorbable barrier membrane materials used in ridge preservation procedures.
