Roger M. Arce, DDS, MS, PhD, is an assistant professor
of periodontics in the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta
University. A diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology,
his research interests include molecular host/pathogen interactions
and the modulation of inflammatory responses in periodontitis,
as well as computer-guided implant surgery systems.
Appropriate surgical and prosthetic management of nonpreserved sockets following extractions will minimize alveolar bone loss, thus facilitating ridge preservation and implant success.
