Protein Study May Help Improve Oral Cancer Outcomes

In a study appearing in Molecular Cancer Research, scientists from Boston University’s Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine have identified a protein that stimulates the growth of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tumors. They suggest that targeting the lysine-specific demethylase 1 enzyme with either medications or genetic eradication may limit a tumor’s development and spread. This discovery of a potentially druggable protein opens the door to more effective OSCC treatments with fewer side effects.
