Penn Dental Medicine recently celebrated the opening of the Edward and Shirley Shils Clinic, a 55-chair restorative teaching clinic for predoctoral students. This state-of-the-art clinic will also increase the school’s ability to see more patients. Shirley Shils, wife of the late Edward Shils, was represented in the ribbon cutting ceremony by her daughter, Nancy Shils. Edward Shils served on the school’s board from 2002 to 2004 and was a leader in the dental industry, serving as executive director of the Dental Manufacturers of America and Dental Dealers of America for almost 50 years. He was also a professor and chair of the Management Department at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Small Business Development Center, earning six degrees from Penn and founding the Wharton Entrepreneurial Center.
Henry Schein contributed $2.25 million in health care products and cash in support of the clinic’s construction in the name of Shirley and Edward Shils, Penn Dental reports.
