The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the first dental anesthesia administered via nasal spray.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the first dental anesthesia administered via nasal spray. In tended for dental use as a topical anesthetic, Kovanaze (tetracaine HCl and oxymetazoline HCl) from St. Renatus is designed to provide pulpal anesthesia for restorative treatment. According to the company, needlefree Kovanaze is indicated for regional anesthesia when performing restorative procedures on teeth #4 to #13 and A to J in patients weighing 88 pounds or more.
