Underserved children from Waianae Coast communities in Oahu, Hawaii, will receive 12 months of oral care as part of Dental Home Day. Held in conjunction with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s Annual Session, and supported by Sunstar Americas and Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children: The Foundation of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the May event provided services to more than 100 children, who will be able to access free care for an entire year. Dental Home Day is part of a larger effort to improve the oral health of Hawaii’s children, as Healthy Smiles has granted $65,000 over the past 24 months to three community health centers on Oahu that offer pediatric dental services: Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, Kokua Kalihi Valley Comprehensive Family Services, and Kalihi-Palama Health Center.
