Online Dental Education Certification Program in Development

University of Penn Dental Medicine and the Academy for Advancing Leadership have partnered to develop an online certification program for clinical dental educators. Penn Dental Medicine and University of Pittsburgh faculty will teach the classes. The program, Fundamentals of Clinical Education, is designed to calibrate and orient new clinical faculty as predoctoral, postgraduate, and allied dental educators. This online program includes five modules covering crucial topics in clinical education, such as the critical presence and value of clinical faculty, the landscape of dental education, diversity and inclusion, communication, feedback and teachable moments, and student assessments and evaluations.

Fundamentals of Clinical Education aims to equip clinical faculty members with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to be effective educators and valuable team members at their institutions, according to the school. Penn Dental Medicine will offer the program in spring 2019.
