
Survey Provides Insights Into How Dentists Use Patients’ Medical Histories
A study conducted by the American Dental Association that included 258 participants showed that 60% of dentists discuss the medical history with a patient at the initial visit but that this task moves to dental assistants (34%) and dental hygienists (32%) at future appointments. Approximately 85% of practices take at least one vital sign, and cardiovascular disease is the most commonly discussed systemic health issue in the dental setting.
