ADA Seeks Fair Treatment for Dentistry in the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’
As this sweeping legislation heads to the House after passing the Senate, the American Dental Association is speaking up for dental practices, students, and patients.
In a letter to Senate leaders before the vote, the American Dental Association (ADA) outlined key priorities for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, urging protections for small dental practices and access to oral healthcare. The ADA emphasized the importance of preserving the pass-through entity tax deduction, which helps dental practices reinvest in staff, technology, and patient services. The ADA also raised serious concerns about proposed changes to federal student loans, such as eliminating GradPLUS loans and capping lifetime borrowing — moves that could hit dental graduates particularly hard given their steep educational debt.
On Medicaid, the ADA warned against provisions that might limit adult dental benefits, arguing that cuts would increase healthcare costs and harm patient outcomes. The bill barely passed the Senate with a 50-50 vote and Vice President JD Vance breaking the tie with an affirmative vote. With the bill moving to the House of Representatives, the ADA is calling on lawmakers to consider the long-term impact these policies will have on the dental profession and millions of patients who rely on essential oral health services.
