Kentucky Dentist Runs Mobile Practice to Care for the Underserved

0

Kwane Watson, DMD, who graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, became starkly aware of the lack of dental providers in Kentucky serving disadvantaged populations when he served as the state dental director for Community Dental of Kentucky. In 2017, he opened Kare Mobile, a mobile dental practice that provides dental services to low-income communities, aiming to eliminate dental deserts regardless of patients’ backgrounds. The mobile service provides various treatments, including prophylaxes and endodontic and restorative therapy. Starting in Louisville, Kare Mobile has expanded to multiple states, serving patients in Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Michigan, Georgia, and Oklahoma. Watson’s vision is to continue growing Kare Mobile to reach more underserved communities and individuals facing barriers to traditional dental services. Recognized for his achievements, Watson received a Torch of Excellence Award from the University of Kentucky Alumni Association for positively impacting lives through his dedication to accessible dental care.
