Penn Dental Medicine Studies Plant-Based Insulin
Diabetes is one of the most debilitating diseases in the world. In the United States, it is the eighth leading cause of death and the most common cause of kidney failure, amputations of the lower limbs, and vision loss. While insulin injection is an effective treatment, it is not without side effects. Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine (Penn Dental Medicine) in Philadelphia recently published a study on the effectiveness of plant-based, oral delivery of proinsulin. Conducted on mice, the study found that the plant-based insulin regulated blood sugar within 15 minutes of ingestion. Click here to read more.
