After Pandemic Failures, the CDC to Be Reorganized
Citing the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) slow and confusing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Rochelle Walensky, MD, MPH, CDC director, announced a significant overhaul of the agency. The news comes after a 4-month investigation into the agency’s handling of COVID-19. Walensky wants to see the culture become more nimble with the ability to respond immediately to public health emergencies. Turning research into public health guidelines more quickly, improving communication with the public, and increasing collaboration with other parts of the government are some of Walensky’s goals for the reorganization.
