Poll Reveals Contributors to Below-Capacity Operation of Dental Practices
A poll of more than 1,150 dentists conducted by the American Dental Association Health Policy Institute revealed that the most common reason why some practices are not operating at full capacity is patient cancellations (85.4%). Other frequently cited reasons include: lack of patient demand (43%), inability of the practice to maintain a full staff (33.9%), and COVID-19 safety requirements (21.5%). In January, dentist participants noted their practices were about 77% full. This percentage rose to 83% in February, coinciding with a precipitous drop in COVID-19 cases across the country.
