As the United States sees the highest case numbers ever since the global pandemic began, South Africa offers some hope. While the nation endured a fourth wave of COVID-19 with the highly transmissible Omicron variant—which sent case numbers surging—the number of deaths remained steady. The number of new COVID-19 cases in South Africa has dropped by 30% over the past week.
