Say It Isn’t So: New Mutation to Delta Variant May Pose Renewed COVID-19 Threat
Just as the world is looking forward to a continuing decline in COVID-19 cases and growing immunity, researchers in the United Kingdom have discovered a mutation to the Delta variant that may pose a renewed threat. The AY.4.2, or Delta Plus variant now accounts for 6% of COVID-19 cases reported in the UK. British researchers are concerned that this mutation may increase transmissibility of SARS-CoV-2 and reduce the efficacy of vaccines.
