Vaccine Mandates Leave Out Oral Health Professionals

While many healthcare providers must get vaccinated against COVID-19 or lose their jobs, Forbes recently reported on the fact that oral health professionals have been generally left out of vaccine mandates.  The article noted that the federal vaccine mandate for healthcare professionals does not specifically name dental providers. While the American Dental Association recommends vaccination for all oral health professionals and notes that 90% of dentists and 73% of dental hygienists are already vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2, the organization does not support a vaccine mandate. On the other hand, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association signed a joint statement supporting vaccine mandates for all oral healthcare providers.
