Rapid At-Home Tests May Be Key to Controlling COVID-19 but They Face Obstacles
For Americans who desperately want to keep their children in school and themselves at work, rapid at-home COVID-19 tests are key to avoiding quarantine. However, with the least expensive option coming in at $12 a test, they will be a game-changer only for the wealthy. The cost for such tests is much lower in other countries. For instance, in Germany, a single rapid COVID-19 test costs $1; in India, a test costs $3.50. Supply is another hurdle.
