CDC Tracks COVID-19 Vaccine Safety Via Smartphones
The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) v-safe program enables Americans who have received their first COVID-19 vaccination to provide valuable information on their experience with the swipe of their smartphones. Individuals opt into v-safe, which is an addition to the CDC’s ongoing vaccine safety programs. The CDC will then send daily text messages for the first week post-vaccination and then weekly for another 6 weeks asking how the participant is feeling. The data gathered from this program are analyzed by CDC scientists who look for any patterns in reporting of adverse effects. Thus far, the available data have shown similar results to the vaccine’s clinical trials: very little risk of serious side effects. More than 9 million Americans have participated in v-safe.
