US to Donate First Shipment of 25 Million COVID-19 Vaccines to Countries in Need
With demand for COVID-19 vaccines in the United States leveling off, the US will donate 80 million doses to countries struggling to vaccinate their residents. The first shipment of 25 million doses will be distributed to a variety of nations in Latin America, Caribbean, Asia, and Africa , in addition to Palestinian territories, beginning immediately. The US hopes to have all 80 million doses distributed by the end of June. The primary catalyst for getting doses to these nations—many of which are experiencing widespread SARS-CoV-2 outbreak—is COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access, or Covax, an international collaborative dedicated to equitable vaccine distribution.
