Small Percentage of Asymptomatic College Students Posed the Highest Risk for SARS-CoV-2 Transmission
Colleges and universities are some of the few places that regularly tested their entire populations for COVID-19, providing a rich source for data mining. A new study took advantage of these metrics and found that a small percentage—2%—of asymptomatic college students carried 90% of the novel coronavirus load. These “super carriers” had similar viral loads as hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The University of Colorado at Boulder study authors assert that the level of virus present does not correlate to the presence of symptoms. The study, “Just 2% of SARS-CoV-2-Positive Individuals Carry 90% of the Virus Circulating in Communities” was published in PNAS. Click here to read more.
