NIH Study Better Elucidates How Our Bodies Fight SARS-CoV-2

Recent results from a National Institutes of Health (NIH) study demonstrate that the body unleashes a large number of antibodies in response to infection with the novel coronavirus. Published in Science, the article looked at the antibodies produced among patients who recovered from mild COVID-19 and found that these patients produced a strong immune response to a larger variety of the novel coronavirus’ spike protein than previously thought. Researchers noted that 84% of the antibodies produced attacked other parts of the spike protein than just the receptor-binding domain, the part of the spike that adheres to human cells. This news bodes well for the development of a vaccine booster or a vaccine that may more effectively vanquish SARS-CoV-2. Click here to read more.
