FDA Likely to Green Light Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine for Kids 12 to 15
As early as next week, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to issue an Emergency Use Authorization for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to be given to children between the ages of 12 and 15. Currently, the Pfizer vaccination is only authorized for those age 16 and older. The Moderna vaccine is administered only to individuals 18 and older. Public health officials assert that vaccinating kids is integral to boosting immunity levels and decreasing hospitalizations and mortality relative to SARS-CoV-2.
