Pfizer Plans to Release COVID-19 Pill by the End of 2021
Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla, DVM, PhD, announced on April 27 that the company hopes to release an at-home, oral drug designed to inhibit the enzymes that SARS-CoV-2 requires to reproduce in human cells. Pfizer began testing of the antiviral medication in early March. The company is simultaneously working on an injectable antiviral medication also. Combined with COVID-19 immunizations, a treatment that can mitigate COVID-19 illness immediately while being administered at home could be a game changer in the fight against the novel coronavirus.
