FDA Approves Over-the-Counter COVID-19 Tests Available Without a Prescription

To add to the growing feed of positive pandemic news, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved several at-home, over-the-counter COVID-19 tests available without a prescription on March 31. These antigen tests are designed for the serial screening of individuals in settings such as schools and workplaces. Serial screening is key to ongoing management of the pandemic as it allows for the testing of the same subjects multiple times, which enables the quick identification of asymptomatic individuals and may improve the ability to contract trace.
