Once touted as a possible game changer in the fight against COVID-19, ivermectin was the subject of a randomized controlled clinical trial published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that determined it is not helpful in alleviating mild COVID-19 illness. The study, which included 400 participants, found no statistically significant difference between the outcomes of patients with COVID-19 who were treated with ivermectin and those who did not receive the drug.
