COVID-19 ‘Long Haulers’ Report Unusual Oral Symptoms
SARS-CoV-2 is a strange and wily virus, exerting a wide variety of effects from mild to severe. Some who have recovered from the initial novel coronavirus infection report a range of symptoms that linger after the virus has passed; these individuals have become known as “long haulers.” Recently, some of these long haulers have reported unusual oral symptoms, including spontaneous tooth loss, sensitive gingiva, discoloration of teeth, and chipping or cracking of teeth. While there is no evidence linking COVID-19 infection with these types of oral problems, the virus’ negative impact on the circulatory system may affect tooth mobility.
