One in Five COVID-19 Patients Presents With Gastrointestinal Symptoms Only
Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and appetite loss are gastrointestinal symptoms reported among those with COVID-19 illness. According to a University of Alberta study, these symptoms may be the only ones noted in approximately 16% of COVID-19 patients. Published in Abdominal Radiology, the article included data from 36 studies conducted on COVID-19 symptoms since July 2020. The findings suggest that healthcare professionals should consider gastrointestinal symptoms during patient screenings, which typically focus on fever, cough, respiratory problems, and fatigue as COVID-19 symptoms.
