NIH Uncovers Why Some Develop Severe Illness With COVID-19
Researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have found that 10% of those who become severely ill with COVID-19 have misguided antibodies that attack the immune system instead of the novel coronavirus. In addition, 3.5% have a genetic mutation that affects immunity, making them more susceptible to COVID-19. Both groups experience higher levels of morbidity and mortality due to infection with the novel coronavirus. Read more here.
