OSAP Announces New Board of Directors
The Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP), a community of clinicians, educators, consultants, researchers, industry representatives, and compliance directors who advocate for safe and infection-free delivery of oral healthcare, has appointed Douglas L. Risk, DDS, ABGD, FICD, as board chair, and Eve J. Cuny, BA, MS, as vice-chair and chair-elect for the 2020–2021 year.
The Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP), a community of clinicians, educators, consultants, researchers, industry representatives, and compliance directors who advocate for safe and infection-free delivery of oral healthcare, has appointed Douglas L. Risk, DDS, ABGD, FICD, as board chair, and Eve J. Cuny, BA, MS, as vice-chair and chair-elect for the 2020–2021 year.
Risk has experience in clinical practice, command and headquarters assignments, and deployments. He served in the U.S. Air Force and attended the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency at Lackland Air Force Base. Risk served as director of the Dental Evaluation and Consultation Service. Since retiring in 2017, he has provided consultation services to private practices, manufacturers, and the Department of Defense. He is currently in clinical practice in Southern Maryland and serves as compliance director for six practice locations. He is also a Decisions in Dentistry author.
Cuny is a Decisions in Dentistry contributor, a member of Dimensions of Dental Hygiene’s Peer Review Panel, and is the director of Environmental Health and Safety and an associate professor of diagnostic sciences at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco. Cuny has published extensively on the subject of infection control and patient safety, has lectured nationally and internationally, and has worked globally with government agencies, universities, and nonprofit organizations to develop best practices in infection prevention and safety. She is also a member of the National Occupational Research Agenda Council.
OSAP Board Members for the 2020–2021 year include:
- David Kierce, BS, Global Platform Leader for Dentsply-Sirona’s Infection Prevention Product Line, serves a consecutive term as treasurer
- LCDR Matthew R. Ellis, MPH, CIC, REHS, U.S./DHHS-Indian Health Service (IHS) Infection Prevention and Control Program manager, assigned to the IHS HQs Office of Quality, was elected secretary
- Steve Geiermann, DDS, senior manager, Access, Community Oral Health Infrastructure and Capacity, American Dental Association, and currently serves on the advisory committee for the Oral Health Progress and Equity Network (OPEN) and the board of the American Institute of Dental Public Health (AIDPH), will serve as a board member
- Julie Lynch, MS, BSN, RN, director of Clinical Development for American Dental Partners Inc, will serve as a board member
- Raleigh Wright, DDS, chief clinical officer for Lane and Associates Family Dentistry, will serve as a board member
