CDC Requests More Funds for COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout
The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has requested $6 billion from Congress to finance the nationwide rollout of COVID-19 vaccines once they are ready. The urgent request was made by CDC Director Robert Redfield, MD, at a Congressional hearing on September 16. Redfield asserts that now is the time to plan for the logistics of distributing vaccines to millions of Americans. From vaccine storage (some require subzero temperatures) to ensuring enough equipment (eg, vials, syringes) is available to the details of getting the vaccines from the place of manufacture to the point of use make the large distribution of COVID-19 vaccines an enormous undertaking.
