Blood Type May Play a Role in Risk and Severity of COVID-19
European researchers suggest that blood type may impact the risk of acquiring COVID-19 as well as the severity of symptoms once infected. Published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the study examined the genes of more than 4,000 participants, looking for similarities among those who became infected with COVID-19 and those who then developed the most serious symptoms. They found that those with type A blood were 45% more likely to develop severe symptoms from COVID-19 infection, while those with type O blood were 35% less likely to develop severe symptoms after infection. Study authors note that more research is needed. Read more here.
