Vertical Transmission of COVID-19 Is Possible
Three out of 33 babies born recently in Wuhan, China—the city where the first cases of COVID-19 were discovered in December 2019—tested positive for COVID-19, according to JAMA Pediatrics. As strict adherence to infection control standards has been mandated in the labor and delivery area, researchers suggest these three babies are indicative of vertical mother-infant transmission of the virus. The virus was found through nasopharyngeal and anal swabs, and the infants showed radiographic signs of pneumonia. Read more here.
