Optimal pH levels support remineralization and oral health by helping maintain homeostasis in the oral microbiome.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:
- Describe the concepts of homeostasis, symbiosis and dysbiosis in the oral microbiome, and the role of saliva and oral pH levels in these processes.
- Explain how dietary choices and mechanical forces, including plaque removal and introducing remineralizing ions, can affect the demineralization/ remineralization of tooth structure.
- Discuss the importance of evidence- based recommendations in the prevention and management of dental caries and other dental diseases.
