A discussion of current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance for the use and reprocessing of electric and air-driven rotary handpieces.

After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Briefly describe the basic differences between air-driven and electric handpieces, and ramifications of their use during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  2. Discuss infection prevention considerations and guidance for use of dental handpieces in light of SARS-CoV-2.
  3. Explain reprocessing protocols for air-driven and electric handpieces.
