The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released updated immunization recommendations that contain some noteworthy changes from previous schedules. Dental practitioners should take note in order to ensure their medical history protocols reflect these new guidelines and that patient histories are up to date.
The adult schedule includes the addition of recently licensed meningococcal serogroup B and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines, as well as new recommendations for the pneumococcal vaccination. The schedule for children and adolescents includes guidance for use of two recently licensed meningococcal B vaccines and the ninevalent HPV vaccine. Both schedules can be found at cdc.gov/vaccines.
