DENTSPLY International and Sirona Dental Systems have announced that their boards have unanimously approved a definitive merger agreement. The marriage of the broad-based manufacturing giant to a leading technological company will reportedly result in one of the largest manufacturers of professional dental products and technologies, with the largest dental sales and service infrastructure in the world.
Employing 15,000 worldwide, the new company will be headquartered in York, Pennsylvania, the location of DENTSPLY’s current headquarters, and the international base will be in Salzburg, Austria. Jeffrey T. Slovin, president and CEO of Sirona, will serve as CEO of the combined company. Bret. W. Wise, chairman and CEO of DENTSPLY, will serve as executive chairman.
“Combining Sirona’s proven digital solutions and equipment with DENTSPLY’s leading consumables platform creates the most comprehensive dental solutions available to meet customer demand in every key segment,” notes Slovin. “I look forward to leading the talented teams of both Sirona and DENTSPLY as we drive the global digitization of dentistry.”
The merger is projected to result in a net revenue of about $3.8 billion. Plans call for the new company, which will be called DENTSPLY SIRONA, to become a total solutions provider, with the ability to deliver digital technologies and integrated solutions and workflows to boost efficiency and improve patient care for both general dentists and specialists. The company will trade on the NASDAQ under the symbol XRAY.
