Decisions Contributor Receives Prestigious Award
Vanchit John, BDS, MDS, DDS, MSD, chair of the Department of Periodontology at Indiana University (IU) School of Dentistry in Bloomington and frequent contributor to Decisions in Dentistry, recently received the IU President’s Award for Distinguished Teaching on April 8. John is the first member of the School of Dentistry faculty to receive the President’s Award, which is the highest honor given to educators at IU.
John is also a professor in the School of Dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology. In 2023, he received the O’Leary-Hancock Endowed Professorship. He has contributed to Decisions on a variety of topics related to periodontology ranging from implementing surgical checklists to treating gingival recession with platelet-rich fibrin and acellular matrix.
In response to receiving the President’s Award, John shared, “It makes me reflect on my past three decades in the school and the department. While this award certainly is a big honor for me, it is a team effort for sure, as I have been blessed with the opportunity to work with so many current and former students, residents, staff, and colleagues. I am very grateful to IU School of Dentistry and IU Perio for giving me this opportunity to work as a full-time educator and for being open to my style of teaching.”
