Higher Than Expected Rates of Heart Inflammation Post-COVID-19 Vaccination Found Among Military
While still remaining rare, a study of United States military personnel found higher than expected rates of heart inflammation after COVID-19 vaccination. The study, published in JAMA Cardiology, found that 23 young male members of the US military developed myocarditis after receiving a second Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Scientists expected the incidence to be lower—approximately eight or fewer cases based on estimates made using the general population. All 23 military men have completely recovered. The risk for heart inflammation following COVID-19 immunization appears to be higher among young men than other populations. Click here to read more.
