
New COVID-19 Cases Decline Across the US but the Need for Vigilance Remains
The number of new COVID-19 cases is decreasing across the United States, while the number of patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 illness is at the lowest level since mid-December. More than 30 states have experienced declines in new case numbers and 18 states have seen decreases in the number of COVID-19-related deaths. While these improvements may indicate the US is flattening the curve, public health officials assert the battle is far from over. The emergence of different, more contagious variants to the novel coronavirus and concern over whether the variants impact the efficacy of available vaccines are reasons why individuals must remain vigilant with COVID-preventive strategies such as wearing masks, social distancing, and handwashing.
