
While COVID-19 Shows No Signs of Abating, Flu Rates Are Lowest in Years
With most Americans abiding by pandemic safety precautions coupled with a highly effective flu vaccine, rates of influenza in the United States are expected to be the lowest in recent history. Preliminary data from countries below the equator, which saw the end of winter on August 31, show very low rates of flu transmission. According to the World Health Organization, 2020 rates of flu in the Southern Hemisphere were 36 out of 1,000 patients, while in 2017, the rate of flu transmission was 200 out of 1,000. These data bode well for the US as winter, which typically brings the highest rates of flu, begins on December 21. Read more here.
