More Than 200 Products Added to Disinfectants Effective Against SARS-CoV-2
On March 25, 2020, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) added more than 200 EPA-registered disinfectant products to the list of those that are effective against the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Forty products made the cut after undergoing the agency’s new expedited review process. Although none of the products on the EPA’s list have been tested against SARS-CoV-2, they have proven effective against difficult-to-kill viruses or other human coronaviruses similar to SARS-CoV-2. The EPA has also updated the list to include each product’s active ingredient and the amount of time the surface should remain wet to achieve efficacy. Dentists and hygienists will need N95 masks to provide dental care that is safe for the provider under any circumstances.
No matter how we screen patients, unless we have conclusive proof that the patient is not positive for the corona virus sars covid19 we are at great risk as soon as we begin drilling on teeth and aerosolizing saliva and blood. So unless dental offices have access to n95 masks and other PPE we dentists are out of business.
