University of Georgia Offers Pre-Dental Students a Unique Opportunity to Hone Their Skills
The University of Georgia’s new Manual Dexterity Through Art certificate program helps pre-dental students refine their hand skills through ceramics, jewelry making, and printmaking. This unique collaboration between the Pre-Professional Advising Office and Lamar Dodd School of Art is giving students a creative edge in dental school applications.
Precision is key in dentistry, and a new University of Georgia (UGA) program is helping pre-dental students sharpen their manual dexterity in an unexpected way — through art. The Manual Dexterity Through Art certificate program, a collaboration between UGA’s Pre-Professional Advising Office and the Lamar Dodd School of Art, immerses students in ceramics, jewelry making, and printmaking to enhance their fine motor skills. Funded by a dentist who wanted UGA students to stand out in dental school applications, the semester-long program filled up quickly, proving its value.
Instructor Leah Mazza and Master of Fine Art candidates Kayla Hall and Jordan Winiski lead the hands-on sessions, helping students master the delicate movements required for both art and dentistry. With strong support from dental schools, the program is expected to grow, offering pre-dental students a creative yet practical way to gain a competitive advantage. Click here to read more.
