The global pandemic has led to more than 600,000 deaths in the United States, but COVID-19’s reach is even greater, as a significant increase in mortality rates for heart disease and diabetes has been revealed. In 2020, death rates for heart disease jumped 3% and death rates for diabetes surged 14%. Public health experts suggest that these dramatic increases are related to individuals avoiding routine healthcare and hospital-based treatment, while also neglecting their health by putting on weight and reducing activity levels, due to fear related to the global pandemic.
