Researchers at the University of Washington School of Dentistry are seeking new ways to improve the ways dentist measure pediatric patients’ pain under a 5-year National Institutes of Health grant.

The study consists of three phases:

  • Determining what dentists know about assessing pain and how they currently do it.
  • Creating an implementation strategy to improve the use of these assessment tools and lead pilot studies with dental professionals to test appropriateness, acceptability, and feasibility
  • Developing a plan to scale up the implementation strategy so more pediatric dental practices can use these assessment tools.
